CHAPTER 3 – The Perfect Wife Falls

CHAPTER 3 – The Perfect Wife Falls

By sunrise, every illusion surrounding Victoria Harrington had begun to crumble.

Detectives photographed the basement.

Medical specialists examined the children.

The family physician quietly confirmed what Nathan had feared.

The bruises weren't recent.

Some injuries showed signs of repeated abuse stretching back months.

Hidden behind storage shelves, investigators discovered another horror.

A locked cabinet.

Inside were journals.

Every punishment.

Every rule.

Every "lesson."

Victoria had documented them all in obsessive detail.

Detective Harris looked at Nathan with disbelief.

"She wrote everything down."

Nathan couldn't bring himself to read another page.

Then the housekeeper stepped forward.

She had worked for the Harrington family for eleven years.

"I tried to tell someone," she cried.

"But Mrs. Harrington threatened to have us deported."

The butler lowered his head.

"So did I."

One by one...

Employees admitted they had witnessed signs of abuse but had been too frightened to speak.

Nathan blamed none of them.

He blamed himself.

Because while he had built skyscrapers across three continents...

His own children had been trapped beneath his own home.

That afternoon, every board member of the Harrington Foundation received copies of the investigation.

Sponsors withdrew.

Television networks canceled Victoria's interviews.

Her carefully crafted public image vanished within hours.

She had spent years pretending to rescue vulnerable children through charity work.

Now the entire country knew she had been abusing her own.

When officers placed handcuffs on her wrists, she looked toward Nathan.

"I loved you."

He answered quietly.

"No."

"You loved control."

"And when no one was watching..."

"...you chose cruelty."

Victoria lowered her head as she was escorted into the police vehicle.

The mansion felt strangely quiet after she left.

But this time...

May you like

The silence wasn't filled with fear.

It was filled with relief.
