Chapter 3: The Night Everything Changed
Danny ordered the ballroom closed.
"No one leaves," he said quietly.
The room erupted into confusion.
Politicians protested.
Investors complained.
Reporters demanded answers.
Danny ignored them all.
Instead, he led Margaret into a private conference room.
She slowly removed a faded silver necklace from beneath her uniform.
Inside was a tiny photograph.
A little boy with dark hair...
Holding a wooden toy airplane.
Danny reached into his wallet with trembling hands.
He carried the exact same photograph.
Only the other half.
Margaret gasped.
"I kept mine all these years."
Danny's voice broke.
"So did I."
Just then, security entered.
"Sir..."
"We found something."
Richard Langford had attempted to leave through the staff entrance.
He was carrying a locked leather briefcase.
Inside were decades-old legal files.
Hospital records.
Custody documents.
And one signed affidavit.
It revealed the truth.
Danny's mother had never abandoned him.
She had been declared mentally unstable using forged medical reports after refusing to sign away ownership of family land that later became the foundation of the Crawford real estate empire.
