Chapter 1: The Locket That Stopped the Wedding

Chapter 1: The Locket That Stopped the Wedding

The ballroom fell into complete silence.

The bride stared at the tiny silver locket resting in her trembling hands.

Inside was an old, faded photograph of two little girls sitting beneath a willow tree.

One of them wore a small blue ribbon.

The other held a stuffed rabbit.

On the back of the photo were four handwritten words.

"Forever sisters. — Mom."

The bride's breathing became uneven.

"No..."

She slowly lifted her eyes toward the young maid.

"What... is your name?"

The maid hesitated.

"My name is Lily."

"And before the orphanage?"

Lily frowned.

"I don't remember much."

"I was very little."

"They told me my parents died."

The bride's hands began to shake uncontrollably.

"Do you... have a birthmark?"

Lily quietly rolled back her sleeve.

Just above her wrist...

A tiny crescent-shaped birthmark.

Exactly like the one the bride remembered kissing when they were children.

Tears filled the bride's eyes.

"My little sister..."

The room gasped.

Lily stood frozen.

"What?"

The bride stepped closer.

"My name isn't just Sophia Carter."

"My name used to be Sophia Bennett."

"I've been looking for you for twenty-two years."

The silver locket slipped from her hand.

Neither sister noticed.

They were already running toward each other.
