Chapter 2: The Little Girl Who Refused to Stay Silent
"Lily..."
Arthur's voice trembled as he held his unconscious mother in his arms.
"Call an ambulance!" he shouted.
The household staff rushed into the grand lobby, frozen by the horrifying scene.
Victoria was the first to speak.
Her voice broke into perfectly timed sobs.
"It was an accident!"
"She slipped!"
Arthur looked toward the staircase, still unable to understand what had happened.
Then he heard a tiny voice behind him.
"No..."
Everyone turned.
Seven-year-old Lily stepped slowly out of the shadows, clutching her stuffed bear so tightly that its seams had begun to split.
Her face was pale.
Tears streamed silently down her cheeks.
"Daddy..."
Arthur reached toward her.
"Lily, sweetheart... what happened?"
She looked directly at Victoria.
Then whispered,
"She pushed Grandma."
The entire mansion fell silent.
Victoria's crying stopped for a fraction of a second.
Then she quickly recovered.
"Arthur, she's confused."
"She was frightened."
"Children imagine things."
But Lily shook her head.
"I saw everything."
"You were angry."
"Grandma said she wouldn't sign the papers."
May you like
"Then you pushed her."
The color drained from Victoria's face.
