CHAPTER 3: THE PERSON NO ONE SUSPECTED

CHAPTER 3: THE PERSON NO ONE SUSPECTED
The fight outside the kitchen doors lasted less than two minutes.
Adrian’s men regained control quickly.
Too quickly.
Which meant the attackers were not here to win.
Only to test.
To confirm.
To distract.
When silence returned, one of Adrian’s men approached, holding a recovered communication device.
His face was tight.
“Boss… the signal came from inside the restaurant before the device was placed on the baby.”
A pause.
Emma slowly looked up.
“Inside?” she repeated.
Adrian’s eyes darkened.
And then, slowly, every head in the room turned.
Toward the same person.
The manager.
A man who had been calmly coordinating staff all evening.
A man who had never once approached the table.
A man who knew exactly where Adrian would sit.
The manager raised his hands too late.
Adrian didn’t shout.
He didn’t need to.
“Take him.”
Two bodyguards moved instantly.
The manager backed away, panic breaking his composure for the first time.
“I didn’t— you don’t understand—”
But Adrian had already stopped listening.
Because Emma had placed the baby back into his arms.
And the child, finally safe, had fallen asleep against his chest.
Adrian looked down at his son.
Then at Emma.
“You noticed before anyone else did,” he said quietly.
She shook her head. “I just didn’t ignore him.”
Something shifted in his expression at that.
Respect.
