Chapter 2

Part 2: The Bloodline They Tried to Erase
Vance finally spoke, and this time his voice carried something heavier than authority.
It carried history.
“Twenty-two years ago,” he said, “a classified military operation collapsed during a foreign extraction mission.”
The room tightened.
“Entire command units were wiped from record. Names deleted. Identities erased.”
His eyes locked on Maya.
“But there was one survivor.”
A collective inhale swept through the crowd.
“One child,” he continued, voice shaking slightly. “The daughter of Commander Elias Rourke.”
The name hit the room like an explosion.
Even politicians shifted uncomfortably.
Even the mayor looked away.
Victoria’s face drained.
“That name is—”
“Is supposed to be impossible,” Vance finished.
He held the pendant higher.
“This seal belonged only to his direct bloodline. It was never replicated. Never transferred. And never lost.”
A pause.
Then, softly:
“It was meant to identify his heir.”
Maya’s arms tightened around her baby.
“No…” she whispered. “That can’t be me…”
But Vance’s eyes were already filled with certainty.
“It is you.”
The room erupted in chaos.
Whispers. Shock. Phones lowering mid-recording.
Ethan finally pushed forward.
“This is insane,” he said, voice cracking. “Maya is my wife. I would know if she—”
Vance turned his gaze on him.
Cold.
Sharp.
Final.
“You never knew who you married,” the Colonel said.
“And now you’re standing in the same room as a bloodline that entire intelligence agencies feared to acknowledge.”
Victoria stepped back, her voice rising in desperation.
“This is ridiculous! Even if it were true, she’s nothing! She’s just—”
“She is the last Rourke,” Vance interrupted.
“And you slapped her.”
The words landed differently now.
Heavier.
Dangerous.
May you like
The entire room felt it.
Even Victoria did.
