Chapter 3: The Truth Hidden Behind the Walls

Chapter 3: The Truth Hidden Behind the Walls
Richard ordered every member of the household into the library.
Including Victoria's elderly father, Charles.
He placed the photograph on the table.
"Tell them."
Charles refused.
"There is nothing to tell."
Richard quietly opened a small wooden box he had kept for decades.
Inside was the matching receipt for the bracelet.
Two bracelets had been commissioned.
One for Anna.
One for the child they hoped to have.
Charles finally lowered his head.
"I paid her to leave."
Victoria stared at her father.
"You... what?"
"I told her Richard would never choose a servant over the family's reputation."
"I threatened to ruin her life."
"I offered her money."
"And I told Richard she had betrayed him."
Silence filled the room.
Richard looked at Sophie.
"You..."
His voice cracked.
"...are my daughter."
Tears streamed down Sophie's face.
"I didn't come here for money."
"My mother never wanted revenge."
"She only wanted me to know where I came from."
Months later, Richard legally acknowledged Sophie as his daughter.
She declined to move into the mansion.
Instead, Richard restored Anna's small childhood home and opened a scholarship in her name for children from disadvantaged families.
Victoria apologized publicly for striking Sophie.
Sophie accepted the apology—but never forgot the lesson.
Before Anna passed away, she had once told her:
"Never let bitterness become your inheritance."
Standing beside her mother's grave, Sophie fastened the silver bracelet around her wrist once more.
It had not made her wealthy.
It had not changed the past.
But it had done something even greater.
It had told the truth.
And sometimes...

The End.
