CHAPTER 3: The Truth Behind the Fortune

CHAPTER 3: The Truth Behind the Fortune

Daniel embraced Emily without saying a word.

For several long moments, the ballroom simply watched.

Many of the guests quietly wiped away tears.

Vanessa stepped forward and hugged Emily too.

"You're family," she whispered.

But not everyone welcomed the reunion.

Daniel's uncle, Charles Whitmore, suddenly stood.

"This changes nothing."

Every head turned.

Charles folded his arms.

"The Whitmore estate belongs to Daniel alone."

Emily immediately shook her head.

"I didn't come here for money."

"I came because I finally found my brother."

Charles laughed coldly.

"Convenient timing."

Daniel slowly turned toward him.

"No."

"The convenient timing belongs to you."

Charles frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Daniel looked at the family attorney.

"You told me years ago that my mother voluntarily gave Emily away."

The attorney lowered his head.

"I believed what your grandparents told me."

Daniel opened another folder that Emily had brought.

Inside were hospital records, custody documents, and letters never delivered.

One document stunned everyone.

Daniel's grandparents had secretly paid lawyers to block every attempt their mother made to contact him.

For nearly twenty years...

Every birthday card.

Every Christmas letter.

Every photograph.

Had been intercepted.

Emily quietly said,

"Mom wrote to you every year."

"You never answered because you never received them."

Daniel's heart broke all over again.

He had spent decades believing he had been forgotten.

The truth was far crueler.

He had been deliberately kept away from the people who loved him.
