Chapter 4: Home Again

Chapter 4: Home Again

One year later...

Rain fell gently outside the Holloway house once more.

This time, Emma ran barefoot through the front hallway exactly as she used to.

"Daddy!"

Nathan caught her in his arms before she could slip on the hardwood floor.

They both laughed.

The house no longer echoed with fear.

It echoed with music, bedtime stories, movie nights, and weekend pancake breakfasts.

The old notebook remained in Nathan's desk.

Not as a reminder of guilt.

But as a promise.

Never again would work become more important than the child waiting at home.

One evening, Emma looked up from a puzzle and smiled.

"You know what my favorite chore is now?"

Nathan grinned.

"What?"

"Hugging you when you come home."

He laughed.

"I'll make sure that's the only one you have every day."

As the rain tapped softly against the windows, Nathan understood that providing for a child means more than giving them a beautiful house.

It means making sure they always feel safe inside it.

The End.
