PART 3: THE STORE THAT WAS NEVER HIS
The man scoffed.
“Excuse me? Who are you supposed to be?”
The woman stepped forward.
Slowly.
Unhurried.
“I’m the person who decides what gets sold in this store.”
Silence.
The cashier stiffened.
A security guard near the entrance straightened immediately.
The man blinked.
Then laughed.
“Listen, sweetheart, I don’t know what fantasy you’re playing at—”
She raised one hand.
And the store manager appeared instantly.
Sweating.
Pale.
Terrified.
“Ma’am,” he said quickly. “We didn’t expect you today—”
That was enough.
The man’s smile faltered.
“What is this?” he demanded. “Some kind of stunt?”
The woman didn’t look at him.
She looked at Ethan.
Then at Lily.
Then at the doll still in the man’s hand.
And said quietly:
“That item was already reserved.”
The man scoffed again.
“Reserved? By who?”
A pause.
The woman finally turned her gaze fully toward him.
And answered:
“By the owner.”
A beat.
Then—
She looked at Ethan.
And said:
“Your reservation was confirmed this morning.”
The store went completely silent.
The man’s face tightened.
“What are you talking about?”
The woman gestured slightly.
Security moved closer.
Not toward Ethan.
Toward him.
And that’s when it happened.
The manager spoke, voice shaking.
“Sir… the Brightland flagship assets were transferred last month.”
The man frowned.
“So?”
The manager swallowed.
“They were transferred… to the Callaway Trust.”
Lily looked up at her father.
Confused.
Ethan didn’t move.

But the woman at the entrance gave him a small nod.
Like someone acknowledging a decision already made long ago.
