Chapter 2: The Word That Ended the Laughter

Chapter 2: The Word That Ended the Laughter

The bride appeared at the edge of the chaos.

She had been smiling seconds ago.

Now she wasn’t breathing properly.

Her eyes locked on the man in the ruined cake.

The laughter around them began to thin.

“Get him out of here,” the groom said, annoyed. “He’s ruining the atmosphere.”

But the bride didn’t move.

Her lips parted slightly.

Her voice came out broken.

“…Brother?”

The word didn’t fit the room.

It didn’t belong in champagne and chandeliers.

It shattered everything anyway.

The groom blinked. “What did you just say?”

The bride stepped forward, shaking now. “I said—”

She looked again at the man on the ground.

At the face beneath the cream.

At the eyes.

And her certainty collapsed into horror.

“Brother…?”

The delivery man slowly lifted his hand.

Wiped the cake from his face.

And stood up.

Slowly.

Not like someone recovering from a fall.

Like someone deciding the room no longer had authority over him.

He removed his cap.

Silence followed it instantly.

Because recognition is louder than any scream.

The bride’s knees nearly gave out.

The groom frowned. “What is this? Some kind of joke?”

The delivery man didn’t look at him first.

He looked at his sister.

Softly, almost disappointed.

“You said you were marrying into respect,” he said.

Then he turned his gaze to the groom.

May you like

And the temperature of the entire wedding dropped.

“You picked the wrong family to play with.”
