Chapter 2: The Suitcase

Chapter 2: The Suitcase

No one noticed it at first.

Not until the zipper split wider on its own weight.

Then—

paper.

Bundles of it.

Stacks of crisp currency slid out onto the marble floor.

U.S. dollars.

Neatly packed.

Too much to be normal.

The husband stopped laughing.

His phone lowered slightly.

“What the hell…” he whispered.

More items spilled out.

Documents.

Folders sealed with embossed stamps.

Bank records.

Property deeds.

A passport he didn’t recognize.

The wife tried to push herself up. “Don’t… touch that…”

Her voice barely carried.

Footsteps suddenly echoed from outside.

A car door slammed.

Another.

Then silence.

A black Rolls-Royce stopped at the front gate.

No one in the house moved.

The driver stepped out first.

Then the door opened again.

An older man emerged.

Expensive coat. Controlled posture. The kind of presence that made the air feel heavier without trying.

He saw the woman on the ground.

And everything in him changed.

He walked past the husband without acknowledging him.

Kneeled beside the suitcase.

Picked up a stack of cash.

Slowly opened one of the folders.

His eyes scanned the contents.

Once.

Then again.

The color drained from his face.

He stood.

Turned.

Looked directly at the husband still holding the phone.

May you like

And asked, quietly:

“Where did you get this?”
