Chapter 2: The Door That Opened

Chapter 2: The Door That Opened
The double doors of the gym suddenly creaked.
Slow.
Heavy.
Not like a student entering late.
Like something far more final.
The laughter faded first.
Then the voices.
Then everything.
Footsteps echoed across the floor.
One.
Two.
Three.
A man stepped inside.
Tall.
Dark coat.
Calm presence that didn’t ask for attention—it removed it.
Behind him, two men in suits stayed near the door.
The air changed temperature.
Lena looked up.
Her breath caught.
Because she knew that walk.
Even if she hadn’t seen it in years.
Tyler rolled his eyes. “Who’s this? Her lawyer?”
The man didn’t answer him.
He looked at Lena.
Only Lena.
And something in his expression broke and rebuilt itself in the same second.
“Lena,” he said quietly.
Her fingers loosened on the bag.
“No…” she whispered.
Tyler scoffed. “Hey, old man, this is a private—”
The man finally turned his head.
Just slightly.
And Tyler stopped talking mid-sentence.
Not because of fear.
Because of recognition that arrived too late.
The man took another step forward.
“I was told,” he said calmly, “that my daughter spends her afternoons here.”
Silence collapsed the gym.
Someone dropped a water bottle.
It rolled endlessly across the floor.
Lena’s voice cracked. “I told you not to find me.”
His expression softened.
“I didn’t come to take you back.”
May you like
A pause.
“I came because you stopped coming home.”
