CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET ROOM

CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET ROOM
The trial was suspended.
Within twenty-four hours, police obtained warrants for Clara's estate and Arthur Sterling's private office.
Detectives expected to find evidence of an affair.
Instead, they discovered a hidden room.
The chamber was concealed behind a bookshelf in Arthur's study.
Inside were hundreds of documents.
Bank records.
Photographs.
Medical reports.
And one leather journal.
Detective Harris opened the journal and immediately realized Arthur Sterling had been keeping secrets from everyone.
Especially Clara.
The entries described meetings with investigators, private surveillance teams, and DNA specialists.
One sentence appeared repeatedly throughout the journal:
"If anything happens to me, protect Emily."
Emily.
Me.
The investigators soon learned why.
A DNA report hidden inside the journal revealed a shocking truth.
Clara was not my stepmother.
She wasn't related to me at all.
In fact, Arthur had only married her eighteen months earlier.
But the greater shock came from another document.
One marked CONFIDENTIAL.
The report identified a woman named Eleanor Reed.
My biological mother.
Officially, she had died in a car accident eight years earlier.
Yet according to Arthur's own investigation, Eleanor Reed had been alive less than six months ago.
Someone had faked her death.
And Arthur had discovered it.
Three weeks later, he was dead.

Suddenly, Arthur's murder was no longer about inheritance.
It was about a secret someone had been willing to kill to protect.
