Hours later, she sat alone in a small rented room on the edge of the city.

Water still clung to her coat.

Her hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

The bag sat on the bed like something dangerous.

She stared at it for a long time before touching it.

“Why…” she whispered. “Why would you do this…”

Then she opened it.

The zipper tore through silence.

Inside—

Stacks of cash.

Neatly bound.

Too much to be an accident.

Her breath caught.

“No…” she murmured.

Her fingers moved deeper.

An envelope.

Plain.

No markings except her name.

Written in handwriting she knew too well.
