Three days passed before Ethan saw the dust on the horizon.
A truck appeared on the dirt road, moving slowly toward the ranch. Ethan immediately pulled Lily inside and locked the door. From the cracked window, he watched as three men stepped out.
And then he saw him.
Victor Hale.
He looked calm, almost satisfied, as if he had finally arrived at something he already believed belonged to him. The two men behind him scanned the land like hunters.
Ethan’s grip tightened around a rusted kitchen knife. He knew he could not fight them physically. Not yet.
But he had something stronger.
