Chapter 2: The Ride That Changed Everything

Chapter 2: The Ride That Changed Everything

The city bus had barely traveled three more blocks when three black SUVs quietly pulled alongside it.

The bus driver glanced into his mirror.

"What in the world..."

At the next stop, the vehicles pulled over.

Several men in dark suits stepped out.

One approached the bus and spoke politely to the driver.

"Excuse me, sir."

"We're here for Mrs. Hailey Robertson."

The passengers looked around in surprise.

Hailey stood slowly, cradling her newborn son.

The team leader smiled gently.

"Mr. Robertson sent us."

"Your father asked us to bring you home."

One of the women on the security team carefully took the diaper bag.

Another helped Hailey step off the bus without straining her healing incision.

The elderly bus driver tipped his cap.

"I'm glad someone came for you."

Hailey smiled through tears.

"So am I."

At Robertson Manor, her father was already waiting.

The moment he saw his daughter walking carefully toward him with his grandson in her arms, his expression hardened.

He kissed Toby's forehead.

Then gently hugged Hailey.

"You should never have had to ride that bus."

She whispered,

"I kept hoping he'd realize what he was doing."

Finnley shook his head.

"People reveal who they are when they think you have nowhere else to go."

He turned to his legal counsel.

"Begin."
