Chapter 4: Home

Within an hour...

The house was quiet.

His relatives packed their bags in angry silence.

His mother stopped at the door.

"You'll regret this."

Daniel shook his head.

"I regret not stopping it sooner."

The door closed behind them.

For the first time in months...

The house felt peaceful.

Daniel returned to the kitchen.

Without a word, he rolled up his sleeves.

Hannah tried to protest.

"You've worked all day."

"So have you."

He turned on the warm water.

"You rest."

She watched him wash every plate, every pan, every cup.

When he finished, he cleaned the counters, swept the floor, and made her a cup of warm tea.

Later that night, they sat together on the porch.

"I'm sorry," Daniel said quietly.

She looked at him.

"For what?"

"I didn't see how much you were carrying."

She squeezed his hand.

"You see me now."

A few weeks later, Hannah gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

When Daniel held his daughter for the first time, he made a promise.

"No one in this house will ever mistake love for unpaid labor."

Years later, when their daughter asked why Grandma rarely visited, Daniel simply smiled.

"Because every home needs boundaries."

"And sometimes the kindest thing you can do..."

"...is close the door on people who refuse to respect it."

Hannah leaned against his shoulder, watching their daughter laugh in the backyard.

She no longer cried over dirty dishes.

She had a partner.

And together, they built a home where love was measured not by sacrifice, but by shared responsibility and mutual respect.

The End.
