The ballroom doors opened.
Two uniformed police officers walked inside, followed by a detective.
Daniel forced a laugh.
"This is ridiculous."
"My father-in-law is overreacting."
The detective remained calm.
"We received multiple emergency calls reporting an assault."
He turned toward Alejandro.
"Sir, do you have evidence?"
Alejandro handed over the memory card.
"So do twelve other guests."
One by one, people stepped forward.
"I saw him hit her."
"I heard the confession."
"I recorded part of it on my phone."
The detective nodded.
Then he turned toward Daniel.
"Sir, please place your hands where I can see them."
Daniel looked around desperately.
His mother stared at the floor.
His father refused to meet his eyes.
Even his closest friends took a step back.
"No..."
Daniel whispered.
"This can't be happening."
The detective spoke firmly.
"It already is."
The handcuffs clicked shut.
