Six months later...
Daniel stood before a judge.
The prosecution presented witness testimony, video recordings, and his own public confession.
The defense argued that he had spoken in anger.
The judge answered simply,
"Your words were voluntary."
"So were your actions."
The verdict was guilty.
Outside the courthouse, reporters gathered around Alejandro and his daughter, Elena.
A journalist asked,
"Mr. Mendoza, what made you so certain the truth would prevail?"
Alejandro smiled gently.
"I wasn't certain."
"I was prepared."
He looked at his daughter.
"For too many years, people have been told to stay silent to keep the peace."
He shook his head.
"Silence protects the wrong person."
Elena slipped her arm through her father's.
Together, they walked down the courthouse steps without looking back.
Behind them, justice had done its work.
Ahead of them, healing could finally begin.
