Chapter 10 – A New Beginning
A year later, the wedding ballroom looked exactly the same.
Crystal chandeliers.
Marble floors.
Golden light.
But this time, I wasn't there for a wedding.
The hotel had invited Sophie to switch on a new initiative:
Every public area would now use enhanced security systems and clearer evidence-preservation procedures for guest safety.
As she pressed the ceremonial button, the ballroom applauded.
Outside, sunlight reflected across the windows.
Sophie slipped her hand into mine.
"Mom?"
"Yes?"
"Bad people don't always win."
I smiled.
"No."
"They only seem to—until the truth has a chance to speak."
She looked up at the same camera that had once silently witnessed the worst day of her young life.
This time, it represented something different.
Not fear.
Not surveillance.
Justice.
Some lies can fool a room for a moment.
But evidence has a way of outlasting applause.
