Chapter 5: A Different Home

Chapter 5: A Different Home

Months later, the Harrington mansion had changed.

The basement door remained open.

Not because anyone needed to enter it—

but because no child would ever again wonder what waited behind a locked door.

Nathan spent less time chasing business deals and more time rebuilding trust with his children.

Healing was slow.

Some nights Emma still woke from nightmares.

Some days Noah became frightened by raised voices.

Liam often checked twice to make sure bedroom doors were unlocked.

Nathan never told them to "move on."

He simply reminded them, every day, that they were safe.

One evening, as they sat together reading in the library, Emma looked up.

"Daddy?"

"Yes?"

"Are we allowed to laugh now?"

Nathan smiled through tears.

"You always were."

This time...

May you like

no one was there to punish them for it.

The End.
