Finnley looked at him calmly.
"I've wanted to meet you properly."
"You've been using my daughter's vehicle."
"You've been living in an apartment owned by my company."
"You've been building your reputation with introductions made by people who trusted my family."
Jasper stared in disbelief.
"What are you talking about?"
One investor quietly slid a folder across the table.
"We invested because Miss Hailey Robertson believed in your vision."
"We assumed you respected the partnership."
Another investor spoke.
"When we learned how you treated her five days after major surgery..."
"...we reviewed our position."
One by one, letters were placed on the table.
Funding suspended.
Strategic partnerships canceled.
Credit lines frozen.
Jasper's face turned pale.
"This can't be happening."
Finnley finally stood.
"You thought wealth made you powerful."
"You were wrong."
"Character does."
Jasper rushed from the meeting and drove to the Robertson estate.
The gates never opened.
He waited for hours.
Finally, Hailey appeared on the balcony, holding Toby in her arms.
She looked healthier already.
Jasper shouted,
"Please...just let me explain."

"I spent months explaining my pain."
