At first, Ethan believed everything would work out.
His mother assured him.
"She's pregnant. She'll come back."
She never did.
Instead, Richard hired the best family lawyers in the state.
Medical reports documented Olivia's injuries.
Neighbors testified they had heard arguments for months.
Text messages revealed years of emotional abuse.
Even more damaging were Ethan's own apologies.
"I'm sorry I lost control."
"Mom didn't mean everything she said."
"Please don't tell anyone."
Every message became evidence.
During mediation, Ethan finally looked exhausted.
His lawyer whispered,
"We should settle."
But his mother interrupted.
"We're not giving her a penny."
Richard leaned back calmly.
"Very well."
The case proceeded to court.
Three months later, the judge issued the decision.
Olivia received sole ownership of the marital home, primary custody of the unborn child after birth, child support, and a protective order.
Ethan was ordered to complete anger-management counseling before requesting visitation.
Outside the courthouse, reporters gathered.
Richard simply said,
"My daughter did not win because of my influence."
"She won because the truth finally had a voice."
