Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Cup

Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Cup
The next morning, I took the blue cup to an independent laboratory.
I wanted answers before I made accusations.
Two days later, the report arrived.
The black fragments weren't insects.
They were pieces of burned herbal material mixed with an unapproved chemical compound that could cause severe stomach irritation and neurological symptoms if ingested.
The laboratory couldn't determine who had placed it there.
But the security footage could.
I immediately contacted the police and turned over the cup, the laboratory report, and copies of the video.
An investigator watched the recording twice.
Then he looked at me.
"Did your wife ever tell you she was giving your son supplements?"
"No."
"And Noah believed it was chocolate?"
"Yes."
The investigator closed his notebook.
"We'll be speaking with Mrs. Vale."
That evening, Celeste returned home expecting another ordinary dinner.
Instead, she found two detectives waiting in the living room.
She froze.
One detective calmly introduced himself.
"We have a few questions regarding an incident involving Noah."
Celeste forced a nervous laugh.
"This is ridiculous."
She turned toward me.
"Daniel... tell them."
I said nothing.
One detective placed a tablet on the coffee table and played the kitchen footage.
Celeste's smile disappeared.
