The hospital social worker met with Miguel that afternoon.
After hearing Valeria's account and reviewing the medical findings, she explained that the family could file reports regarding neglect and seek legal protection if necessary.
Miguel didn't make his decision out of anger.
He made it out of responsibility.
He changed the locks on their apartment.
He collected Valeria's belongings from his mother's house without argument.
When Doña Carmen demanded an explanation, he remained calm.
"My responsibility is to my wife and my son."
She scoffed.
"So you're choosing her over your own family?"
Miguel answered quietly.
"No."
