CHAPTER 4: A DIFFERENT KIND OF HOME
Months passed.
Santiago grew stronger every week.
His laughter filled the apartment that had once echoed with fear.
Valeria slowly recovered.
She attended counseling, regained her confidence, and smiled more often.
One evening, as they watched Santiago take his first unsteady steps across the living room, Valeria reached for Miguel's hand.
"You kept your promise," she said.
He looked at his son.
Then at his wife.
"I almost failed."
She smiled gently.
"But you came home."
Miguel realized something his father had never taught him:
Being a good son did not mean accepting cruelty.
Being a good husband and father meant protecting the people who depended on him—even when the people hurting them shared his last name.
Years later, when Santiago asked why he had never met that side of the family, Miguel answered honestly.
"Because family isn't defined by blood alone."
"It's defined by the people who make sure you're safe, loved, and never afraid."
Santiago smiled and hugged both of his parents.

In that moment, Miguel knew the cycle had finally ended.
The End.
