Chapter 4 — A Life Beyond Fear

Chapter 4 — A Life Beyond Fear

One year later...

The old Fletcher estate had been sold.

The proceeds funded compensation for victims and charitable programs supporting survivors of domestic abuse.

Mason was convicted on multiple criminal charges and sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

Sophia never attended the sentencing.

She didn't need to hear the verdict to know she was finally free.

Instead, she stood beside me on the porch of our first home.

It wasn't a mansion.

It wasn't surrounded by gates or security guards.

White.

Permanent.

Sophia noticed me looking.

"I'm sorry they're so ugly," she whispered.

I turned her gently toward the mirror.

"No."

"They're proof that someone tried to destroy you..."

"...and failed."

Tears filled her eyes.

Not from pain.

From relief.

She smiled for the first time without hesitation.

The scars had not disappeared.

But they no longer defined her.

They became reminders that survival is not weakness.

It is courage carried on the skin.

Some people spend their lives hiding their scars.

Others discover that the deepest wounds can become the strongest evidence that hope survived.

And sometimes...
