Chapter 3: The Life She Built Without Him

Chapter 3: The Life She Built Without Him

Over the following weeks, Chad wrote letters instead of demanding forgiveness.

He attended parenting classes recommended by a family counselor.

He accepted every boundary Olivia established.

Sometimes she allowed short supervised visits.

Sometimes she said no.

He never argued.

One afternoon, Noah asked a question that silenced everyone.

"Mom... why wasn't he here when I was little?"

Olivia looked at Chad.

She could have filled the room with bitterness.

Instead, she spoke with honesty.

"Sometimes adults make decisions because they're afraid."

"They can regret those decisions."

"But regret doesn't erase them."

Chad lowered his head.

"I'm sorry, Noah."

"I was wrong."

"I should have been there."

The little boy thought for a long moment.

Then asked quietly,

"Will you leave again?"

Chad's voice cracked.

"I hope you'll give me the chance to prove I won't."

Trust didn't return overnight.

It returned one promise kept at a time.
