Chapter 2: A New Beginning

Chapter 2: A New Beginning

Three weeks later, I was no longer living inside the mansion that had once felt like a prison.

Instead, I rested in my childhood home overlooking the hills outside Mexico City.

The court had issued emergency protective orders.

Every asset connected to Santiago's fraudulent businesses had been frozen pending investigation.

News channels across the country covered the scandal day and night.

The billionaire philanthropist the public admired had become the face of abuse and corruption.

Evidence continued surfacing.

Former employees testified.

Accountants confessed.

Several executives accepted plea agreements.

Even members of the Rivas family's inner circle abandoned them.

One afternoon, my attorney entered my room carrying a thick folder.

"We've won custody before the baby is even born," she said with a smile.

"They'll never be allowed near your son."

Relief washed over me.

Months of fear disappeared in a single breath.

That evening, my father sat beside me on the terrace.

"I blamed myself," he admitted quietly.

"I thought giving you freedom meant letting you make your own choices."

"You did the right thing," I answered.

"I had to learn who people truly were."

He nodded.

"But you won't have to face them alone again."

Only two days later, labor began unexpectedly.

The delivery was difficult.

For twelve exhausting hours, doctors worked tirelessly while my father waited outside praying for both of us.

Finally...

A baby's cry filled the hospital.

The nurse smiled.

"Congratulations."

"You have a healthy little boy."

Tears streamed down my face as I held him for the first time.

His tiny fingers wrapped around mine.

"Hello, my love."

"I promised we'd make it."

"And we did."

My father kissed my forehead.

"What will you name him?"

I smiled.

"Gabriel."

"Because he is our miracle."

At that very moment, across the city, Santiago sat alone inside a detention cell reading headlines announcing new criminal charges.
