Chapter 1: A Promise in Front of Witnesses

The millionaire felt the weight of every gaze in the room.

He had joked.

He had assumed.

He had not believed she would actually be able to do anything.

Now she stood in front of him like a decision he could no longer avoid.

“I…” he began, forcing a laugh that didn’t land. “That was just—”

“Don’t,” someone behind him muttered.

A woman in a red dress had stepped forward, arms crossed. Her eyes were sharp.

“You said it in front of all of us.”

Murmurs spread through the lobby again.

The girl didn’t move.

Didn’t blink.

Just waited.

Not pleading.

Not desperate.

Certain.

The millionaire swallowed.

For the first time in years, he felt something unfamiliar.

He had no script for this.

He turned slightly toward the crowd, searching for support.

But no one looked away.

No one helped him.

Because everyone remembered the music.

Everyone remembered how easily she had turned an empty bench into something unforgettable.

Finally, he exhaled.

“Fine,” he said quietly. “We’ll… talk about it.”

The girl nodded once.

May you like

“That’s not what you said.”

Silence hit harder this time.
