PART 3: THE GRADUATION THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST

PART 3: THE GRADUATION THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST

Henry stood in the driveway before dawn.

The estate behind him felt чуж陌—like a place he had lived in but never truly known.

Vivian hadn’t tried to stop him again.

That was the most frightening part.

Mason had called three times.

Henry didn’t answer.

The car door opened on its own.

A driver.

Assigned.

Expected.

Henry got in.

The ride was silent.

Too silent.

Not even radio static.

Just movement toward a place he had never heard of until yesterday.

The university from the photo appeared through morning fog.

Young students in graduation gowns moved across the campus lawn, laughing, taking pictures, completely unaware of the storm walking toward them.

Henry stepped out.

And then he saw her.

Standing near the edge of the crowd.

Black gown.

Same silver moon bracelet.

Her head turned slightly as if she had felt him arrive before she saw him.

Slowly.

Carefully.

She looked at him.

And smiled.

Not like a stranger.

Not like a ghost.

Like someone who had been waiting a very long time.

“Hi, Dad,” Claire said.

Henry couldn’t move.

Couldn’t breathe.

Behind him, a voice spoke through his phone speaker—Vivian’s voice, calm and controlled.

“You found her,” she said softly.

Henry whispered, shaking.

“What did you do?”

A pause.

Then Vivian replied:

“I saved your company from her inheritance.”

Henry slowly looked down at the phone.

And for the first time, he understood.

The funeral had never been about grief.

It had been about ownership.

And Claire… had never been missing.

She had been hidden.
