Detectives from the county sheriff's office arrived first, responding to the emergency medical call placed by a neighbor who had heard shouting.
Paramedics rushed to Lily.
As they carefully examined her injuries, one detective noticed the cracked phone lying on the truck's passenger seat.
"Is this hers?"
Arthur nodded.
"It recorded everything after she called me."
The detective carefully placed the phone into an evidence bag.
Inside the mansion, guests who had laughed only minutes earlier were now being asked to remain available for interviews.
One woman quietly admitted she had seen Richard strike Lily earlier that afternoon.
Then the pianist spoke.
Then one of the caterers.
Finally, a teenage waiter confessed he had secretly recorded part of the argument because he feared someone would get hurt.
