PART 3 — The Secret Inside the Attic

PART 3 — The Secret Inside the Attic
While officers searched the property, a detective asked permission to inspect the house.
My father protested.
"This is ridiculous."
"You already found the child."
The detective replied calmly,
"We're not finished."
In the attic...
An officer found several dusty storage boxes.
Most contained old decorations.
One contained children's belongings.
Tiny dresses.
Birthday cards.
Photographs.
All with my name on them.
Except...
Many of the photos had been cut.
My face remained.
Another little girl had been carefully removed.
The detective frowned.
"Who is this child?"
My father went pale.
My mother looked at the floor.
Vanessa whispered,
"Don't."
The detective held up another photograph.
This one was intact.
Two little girls stood beside my parents.
One was me.
The other...
I had never seen before.
My mother's voice barely existed.
"She was your sister."
Every sound around me disappeared.
"My..."
"Sister?"
My father closed his eyes.
"She died when she was five."
The detective asked quietly,
"What happened?"
No answer came.
Only silence.
The same silence that had lived in this family for decades.
The detective looked at the old photographs.
Then toward the backyard where Lily had been found.
"What happened all those years ago..."
"...may explain far more than today's events."
Outside...
Crime scene tape surrounded the dumpster.
Neighbors watched from across the street.
Birthday balloons still floated behind the living room window.
But no one saw a celebration anymore.
They saw what it had become.
A place where hidden truths had finally begun to surface.
And for the first time...
The investigation wasn't just about what happened that morning.
May you like
It was about everything the family had spent years trying to bury.
