Chapter 2: The Man Who Never Lost His Strength

The laughter slowly faded across the marble patio.

Only the sound of the fountain remained.

Sophia, dressed in her emerald evening gown, smiled with open contempt as she rested the pointed heel of her designer shoe against the wheel of Ethan Blackwood's wheelchair.

"You should thank me," she said.

"I stayed longer than anyone else would have."

Around them, investors, politicians, and socialites exchanged awkward glances.

No one dared interrupt.

Beside Ethan, the elderly housekeeper, Mrs. Alvarez, knelt among the shattered glass, carefully folding the velvet blanket that had been thrown onto the ground.

Tears streamed down her face.

"You don't deserve this, sir."

Sophia rolled her eyes.

"He deserves reality."

She leaned closer.

"Nobody follows a man who can't even stand."

Ethan remained silent.

Then he slowly looked down.

His right foot moved.

Only an inch.

But Mrs. Alvarez saw it.

Her eyes widened.

Sophia didn't.

She was too busy removing the engagement ring from her finger.

"It was fun while it lasted."

She tossed the ring into Ethan's lap.

"Our wedding is over."

At that moment, Ethan quietly stood.

The entire patio froze.

One guest dropped a champagne flute.

Another gasped so loudly that every conversation stopped.

Sophia's smile vanished.

"You..."

"You're walking."

Ethan adjusted the cuffs of his suit as though nothing extraordinary had happened.

"I've been able to for three weeks."

May you like

Silence.

Complete silence.
