CHAPTER 3 — THE PATTERN NO ONE SAW
The investigation moved quickly.
What began as one confession uncovered years of hidden abuse.
Photographs.
Medical records.
Messages apologizing after violent outbursts.
Neighbors who had heard arguments through the walls.
Even the housekeeper came forward.
"I always knew something was wrong," she whispered.
"I was too afraid to speak."
My father never pressured anyone.
He simply asked one question.
"What did you see?"
One witness became three.
Three became nine.
The detectives discovered Ethan had assaulted a former girlfriend years earlier.
The case had never moved forward because she believed no one would believe her.
Now she stepped into the police station voluntarily.
"I don't want revenge," she said.
"I just want the truth on record."
By the end of the week, the evidence filled multiple binders.
The prosecutor looked across the table.
"This is no longer about a single slap."
"It's about a pattern."
Ethan's attorney quietly advised him to stop speaking publicly.
