Chapter 2 – The House Was Never His
Molly arrived less than fifteen minutes later.
The moment she saw Tessa standing in the rain with baby Ivy wrapped tightly against her chest, she rushed out of the car.
"Oh my God..."
She pulled her sister into a careful embrace.
"He really locked you out?"
Tessa simply nodded.
No tears.
She had cried enough already.
Inside Molly's guest room, Jennifer called again.
"I've reviewed everything," the attorney said.
"The deed is in your name alone."
"The mortgage has been paid in full."
"And under the prenuptial agreement, Brent has no ownership interest in the property."
Tessa looked toward Ivy sleeping peacefully in her bassinet.
"What happens if I accept the offer?"
Jennifer replied calmly.
"The sale can close within forty-eight hours."
"We'll also notify Brent's attorney that he no longer has permission to occupy the residence after closing."
Tessa closed her eyes.
"Do it."
Meanwhile...
On a private beach in Miami, Brent raised a glass beside his mother.
Diane smiled proudly.
"I told you she'd come crawling back."
Karen laughed.
"She won't survive a week without this house."
Brent leaned back in his chair.
"She has nowhere else to go."
At that exact moment, his phone buzzed.
Subject: Notice of Pending Sale – Redwood Crest Drive
He frowned.
"What is this?"
He opened the email.
His smile vanished.
The property had entered escrow.
The buyer had already deposited the earnest funds.
The closing date was scheduled for two days later.
Brent immediately called Tessa.
Straight to voicemail.
