Chapter 1: The Night Andrew Lost Everything

Chapter 1: The Night Andrew Lost Everything

The first thing Andrew Whitmore lost was not his money.

It was his confidence.

At 6:00 the next morning, Andrew woke up believing yesterday had been another victory.

He stretched across the massive bed inside the Whitmore mansion, glanced at the empty space beside him, and smiled.

Mariana was gone.

For four years, he had watched her walk quietly through his home.

Always polite.

Always patient.

Always careful.

He thought leaving would break her.

He thought the woman who carried his last name depended on him.

He thought she had nowhere to go.

That was the mistake that destroyed him.

Andrew walked downstairs wearing a perfectly tailored suit.

The mansion looked exactly the same.

The marble floors.

The crystal chandeliers.

The expensive artwork.

Everything represented the life he believed he had built.

Margaret Whitmore sat at the breakfast table drinking coffee.

Brenda sat beside her.

The two women looked happier than they had in months.

"She actually left?" Brenda asked.

Andrew smiled.

"She did."

Margaret laughed softly.

"Finally."

She placed her coffee cup down.

"I always knew she didn't belong here."

Andrew poured himself a drink.

"Today we move forward."

Brenda smiled.

"With me?"

Andrew looked at her.

"Of course."

She leaned closer.

"I knew you would choose the right woman."

The irony was almost impossible to ignore.

The woman who believed she had won had no idea she was standing inside a collapsing empire.

At 8:00 a.m., Andrew arrived at Whitmore International headquarters.

The building represented everything he wanted the world to see.

Power.

Success.

Influence.

His name was carved into the lobby wall.

WHITMORE INTERNATIONAL

Thousands of employees worked beneath him.

Investors trusted him.

The media called him one of the most promising CEOs of his generation.

But none of them knew the truth.

The company had almost died four years earlier.

And the person who saved it...

Was the wife everyone underestimated.

Andrew entered his executive office.

His assistant, Daniel, immediately stood.

"Good morning, Mr. Whitmore."

Andrew nodded.

"Any updates?"

Daniel hesitated.

That was unusual.

Andrew noticed immediately.

"What?"

"Sir..."

Daniel looked uncomfortable.

"There are some issues with the banking department."

Andrew frowned.

"What kind of issues?"

"Several accounts are temporarily restricted."

Andrew laughed.

"Restricted?"

"Fix it."

Daniel swallowed.

"We tried."

A silence filled the room.

"What do you mean?"

Daniel opened his tablet.

"Every request requires authorization from the Escalante Trust."

Andrew froze.

For a moment, he thought he misunderstood.

"The what?"

"The Escalante Trust."

The name meant nothing to him.

And that scared him.

"Who authorized this?"

Daniel looked down.

"Mariana."

Andrew stood.

Impossible.

"Mariana doesn't control anything."

Daniel didn't answer.

Because he knew something Andrew did not.

A notification appeared on Andrew's computer.

URGENT: BOARD MEETING REQUESTED

The sender:

Whitmore International Board of Directors.

Andrew opened it.

The message contained only one sentence.

Emergency leadership discussion regarding ownership structure.

His confidence began to disappear.

Thirty minutes later, Andrew entered the boardroom.

The same room where he celebrated every business victory.

But today...

Nobody smiled.

The board members sat silently.

At the head of the table was a woman Andrew recognized.

Catherine Vale.

One of the most respected financial advisors in America.

She looked at him calmly.

"Mr. Whitmore."

Andrew sat down.

"What is happening?"

Catherine opened a folder.

"I believe you should ask your wife."

Andrew's jaw tightened.

"My wife?"

"Yes."

"Mariana Escalante."

The name echoed through the room.

Catherine placed documents on the table.

"Four years ago, when Whitmore International faced bankruptcy, the company received emergency funding."

Andrew looked confused.

"That was a private investment."

"Correct."

"From whom?"

Catherine looked directly at him.

"Escalante Capital Holdings."

The room became silent.

Andrew laughed.

A nervous laugh.

"No."

He shook his head.

"That's impossible."

Catherine pushed another document toward him.

"Your company was purchased out of debt through a series of hidden agreements."

Andrew read the page.

His hands slowly began to shake.

Because the signatures were real.

The investor.

The controlling shareholder.

The person who approved every major rescue decision.

Mariana Escalante.

"No..."

Andrew whispered.

Catherine continued.

"Mrs. Escalante deliberately kept her ownership private."

"Why?"

Nobody answered.

Because everyone knew.

She wanted to know who Andrew truly was.

At that exact moment, Mariana sat inside Escalante Global headquarters.

Unlike the Whitmore mansion...

This building belonged to her.

Her father, Alejandro Escalante, sat across from her.

A man who built one of the world's largest private investment groups.

"You waited four years."

Mariana looked out the window.

"Yes."

"Why?"

She thought about the slap.

The humiliation.

The moment Andrew demanded she kneel.

"Because I needed proof."

Her father nodded.

"You wanted to know if he loved you or your power."

Mariana closed her eyes.

"And now I know."

Alejandro looked at the documents.

"The legal team has activated the agreements."

"His company will lose control by the end of the day."

Mariana remained silent.

Her father studied her.

"Are you sure?"

She looked at him.

"About what?"

"Destroying everything he built."

Mariana shook her head.

"I am not destroying his empire."

A pause.

"I am simply taking back what was always mine."

At Whitmore International, Andrew finally understood.

Every success.

Every acquisition.

Every expansion.

Was connected to Mariana.

The woman he called ordinary.

The woman he told people came from nothing.

Was the reason he had anything at all.

Then his phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

"Hello?"

Mariana's voice came through.

Calm.

Controlled.

Almost gentle.

"Andrew."

His face changed.

"Mariana..."

For the first time in years, he sounded uncertain.

"What did you do?"

A silence followed.

Then she answered:

"Nothing."

"I simply stopped protecting you."

Andrew gripped the phone.

"You can't do this."

"You are my wife."

Mariana smiled sadly.

"That was the one thing you forgot."

"What?"

"I was your wife."

"Not your possession."

The call ended.

At that exact moment, Andrew received another notification.

Access Denied.

His corporate accounts.

His private accounts.

His company systems.

Everything.

Locked.

Outside the boardroom windows, the city continued moving.

People walked.

Cars drove.

Businesses operated.

The world looked normal.

But Andrew Whitmore's world had ended.

Not because someone attacked him.

Not because someone stole from him.

But because the woman he believed had nothing...

Finally revealed that she owned everything.

May you like

And that was only the beginning.
