Chapter 2: Truth Before the Board

Chapter 2: Truth Before the Board

By ten o'clock that morning, every director had gathered in the emergency board meeting.

The atmosphere was suffocating.

News channels were already reporting unusual financial movements.

Investors demanded answers.

Andrew entered confidently despite the chaos.

"Gentlemen, remain calm."

"This is temporary."

Before anyone answered...

The conference room doors opened.

Mariana walked inside.

Elegant.

Composed.

Wearing a charcoal business suit instead of the evening gown they had mocked only hours before.

Behind her came six international attorneys.

Then Eduardo Escalante.

Every director immediately stood.

Andrew frowned.

"What is this?"

The chairman cleared his throat.

"You were never informed because of the confidentiality agreement."

He looked toward Mariana.

"Mrs. Escalante..."

"No."

He corrected himself.

"Ms. Escalante."

"The controlling financial partner of this corporation."

Andrew laughed.

"Enough jokes."

The chief legal officer projected documents onto the massive screen.

Ownership records.

Investment agreements.

Emergency funding contracts.

Every signature belonged to Mariana.

Every bailout came from Escalante Capital.

Every successful merger had been negotiated by her.

Every profitable acquisition carried her authorization.

Without her...

The company had technically been bankrupt three years earlier.

Andrew's face turned pale.

"No..."

"This can't be real."

Mariana finally spoke.

"You once told me..."

"You gave me my life."

She opened another folder.

Inside were copies of every unpaid debt she had erased.

Every scandal she had buried.

Every lawsuit she had quietly settled.

"I never wanted credit."

"I only wanted respect."

Margaret suddenly entered the room.

She looked exhausted.

Her jewelry was gone.

"So..."

"...it's true?"

Mariana nodded gently.

Margaret's knees nearly gave out.

The woman who had mocked Mariana's "cheap handbag" suddenly realized it had carried documents worth billions.

Brenda rushed inside moments later.

Still wearing designer clothes.

Still pretending confidence.

Until security blocked her path.

"I'm here to see Andrew."

One guard answered politely.

"You no longer have building access."

She turned toward Andrew in disbelief.

"Do something!"

Andrew couldn't.

His executive privileges had already been revoked.

Everything was happening too fast.

The board chairman spoke.

"Andrew Lawson."

"You are hereby removed as CEO for gross misconduct and breach of fiduciary duty."

The vote was unanimous.

Twelve.

May you like

To zero.

The empire had officially changed hands.
