Chapter 2: The Evidence They Never Expected

Chapter 2: The Evidence They Never Expected

The mansion doors swung open.

Two police officers entered first, followed by paramedics.

The cheerful atmosphere of the family dinner had vanished.

Now the room smelled of broken porcelain, spilled wine, and fear.

One officer approached Valerie carefully.

"Ma'am, are you the one who called?"

"Yes."

Blood still ran slowly from the cut above her ear.

The paramedic examined her wound.

"You'll likely need stitches."

The officer turned toward Diego.

"Sir, please step away from the table."

Victoria rushed forward.

"This is all a misunderstanding! They're husband and wife. Couples argue."

The officer remained calm.

"Ma'am, we'll determine that after we collect everyone's statements."

Then he noticed something unusual.

A small security camera mounted high in the dining room corner.

He pointed toward it.

"Does that camera record?"

Silence.

Victoria's expression changed.

"It... it's only for security."

The family attorney quietly whispered,

"It records both video and audio."

Every eye turned toward the camera.

Diego's confidence disappeared.

While officers secured the footage, witnesses were interviewed separately.

Most relatives claimed they "didn't see exactly what happened."

Some suddenly became fascinated by the floor.

Others insisted they were looking away.

Only one person refused to lie.

Natalie.

She calmly looked the officer in the eye.

"I saw everything."

"Did Mrs. Harper threaten her husband?"

"No."

"Did she strike him?"

"No."

"What happened?"

Natalie took a deep breath.

"She simply said no."

"And he threw the plate at her head."

The officer nodded as he wrote.

"Thank you for telling the truth."

Natalie looked across the room at Valerie.

"I'm sorry no one else did."

An hour later, detectives reviewed the security footage.

The recording was crystal clear.

Victoria demanding the apartment.

Diego shouting.

Valerie remaining seated.

Then—

The plate leaving his hand.

Striking her head.

The silence afterward.

There was no argument.

No self-defense.

No accident.

Only violence.

The detective closed the laptop.

"I think we've seen enough."

He turned toward Diego.

"Mr. Harper..."

"...you're under arrest for felony assault."

The sound of handcuffs echoed through the mansion.
