The revolving doors closed behind Isabella as security watched her leave.
Marcus slipped an arm around his mistress, Vanessa, and smiled triumphantly.
"Finally," he said. "Now we can stop pretending."
Employees exchanged uneasy glances.
Many had worked with Isabella since the company's first boutique hotel.
She had interviewed them.
Trained them.
Remembered their birthdays.
Yet no one dared challenge the CEO.
Across the city, Isabella sat inside a quiet town car.
Her phone rang.
"It has begun," her father said.
The emergency meeting of the board had already started.
Few people knew that eleven years earlier, when Marcus dreamed of opening his first hotel, every major investment had come from the Moretti Family Trust.
The agreement had one condition.
Marcus would manage the business.
Ownership would remain with the trust until the board unanimously approved any transfer.
That transfer had never happened.
Isabella had never corrected him because she wanted to know whether he loved her without the power of her family's name.

At 11:42 p.m., the board's vote became unanimous.
Marcus was removed as Chief Executive Officer for misconduct, breach of fiduciary duty, and actions damaging the company's reputation.
At exactly 11:58 p.m., electronic access credentials across every hotel in the chain were updated.
