Chapter 3: Locked Out

The next morning, Marcus arrived at the flagship hotel wearing his usual confident smile.

He pressed his executive access card against the private entrance.

A red light flashed.

ACCESS DENIED.

He frowned and tried again.

Nothing.

The Head of Security approached politely.

"Good morning, Mr. Reed."

"My card isn't working."

"I'm aware."

"What does that mean?"

The guard handed him a sealed envelope.

Inside was a formal notice from the board.

His employment had ended.

His office had been secured.

His company vehicle had been reassigned.

His authority no longer existed.

Vanessa rushed forward.

"There has to be some mistake!"

A calm voice answered from behind them.

"There isn't."

Marcus turned.

Isabella walked through the lobby with several board members beside her.

She wore the same quiet confidence she had always carried.

Only now, everyone finally understood why.

Marcus stared at her.

"You planned this."

"No."

She shook her head gently.

"You planned it the moment you forgot who stood beside you from the beginning."

He lowered his voice.

"We can fix this."

"You didn't just betray your wife."

She looked around the hotel they had built together.

"You betrayed the trust of everyone who believed in you."

No one defended him.

The lobby remained silent as security escorted Marcus and Vanessa from the property.

For the first time in years, he left through the same front doors he had once ordered others to use.
