Chapter 2 — The Fall of a King

Chapter 2 — The Fall of a King

The black SUVs pulled away from the mansion without hesitation.

Elena never looked back.

She had spent four years walking behind Daniel.

Today...

He would spend the rest of his life chasing a woman he could never catch.

The headquarters of Ward Global stood fifty stories above the city.

Inside the executive boardroom, every director was already seated.

When Elena entered, every member stood.

"Good morning, Chairwoman."

The title echoed through the room.

Not one of them called her Mrs. Carter.

Not anymore.

Her chief legal officer placed a thick folder before each director.

"Agenda Item One."

"Removal of Daniel Brooks as Chief Executive Officer."

The doors burst open.

Daniel stormed inside, followed by Patricia and Chloe.

"You can't do this!"

Elena remained seated.

"I already have."

Daniel slammed both hands onto the table.

"I built this company!"

One elderly director quietly adjusted his glasses.

"No, Mr. Brooks."

"You managed it."

"Ms. Ward's family built it."

Another director slid a leather binder across the table.

Inside were records stretching back three generations.

Ward Global.

Founded by Samuel Ward.

Passed into the Ward Family Trust.

Every controlling share.

Every voting right.

Every major decision.

Signed...

By Elena.

Daniel stared at the signatures.

His knees almost gave way.

"You... approved everything?"

Elena nodded.

"Every expansion."

"Every acquisition."

"Every loan."

"Every merger."

"And every promotion you ever received."

Patricia shook her head.

"This can't be real."

The legal officer calmly projected the ownership structure onto the screen.

Ward Family Trust—

61% controlling interest.

Daniel Brooks—

0.8%.

The room fell silent.

The chairman spoke.

"Board members..."

"Please cast your votes."

One by one...

Hands rose.

Unanimous.

Daniel Brooks—

Removed as CEO.

Effective immediately.

Security entered.

The same security Daniel had threatened to call on Elena only an hour earlier.

The captain spoke politely.

"Mr. Brooks..."

"We've been instructed to escort you from the building."

Daniel looked around desperately.

No one defended him.

Not Patricia.

Not Chloe.

Not even the executives who once applauded his speeches.

Power attracts crowds.

Failure reveals loneliness.

As the elevator doors closed behind him...

His empire officially ended.

Outside, reporters surrounded the entrance.

Flashes exploded.

Microphones reached toward him.

"Mr. Brooks!"

"Did you really lose control of Ward Global?"

"Were you unaware your wife owned the company?"

Daniel lowered his head.

For years...

He had loved cameras.

Today...

He couldn't escape them.

That evening...

Chloe packed her belongings.

Daniel watched silently.

"I thought you loved me," he whispered.

She zipped her suitcase.

"I loved the future you promised."

She looked around the nearly empty penthouse.

"You don't own that future anymore."

She walked away without another word.

The engagement ring remained on the table.

Alone for the first time in years...

Daniel finally understood something no amount of money could buy.

The greatest loss wasn't the company.

May you like

It was the woman who had quietly protected him...

Until he convinced her she was worth nothing.
