Chapter 3 — The Woman They Never Saw

Chapter 3 — The Woman They Never Saw

Six months later...

Ward Global had reached record profits.

Not because Elena ruled through fear.

Because she ruled through trust.

Employees noticed the difference immediately.

Open-door meetings replaced closed offices.

Bonuses rewarded performance instead of loyalty.

Young managers with fresh ideas finally had a voice.

The company flourished.

So did the people inside it.

Meanwhile...

Daniel's world continued to shrink.

The mansion had been sold.

The penthouse returned to the corporation.

Luxury cars disappeared one after another.

Patricia's favorite charity friends suddenly stopped returning her calls.

The invitations ended.

The prestige vanished.

Status, Elena realized, had always been rented.

Character was the only thing anyone truly owned.

One afternoon...

Daniel requested a private meeting.

Against her advisors' recommendations...

Elena accepted.

He entered her office looking exhausted.

His expensive suits were gone.

So was the arrogance.

"I was blind," he admitted.

"You were."

"I thought I earned everything."

"You didn't."

Silence stretched between them.

"I loved you."

Elena looked at him for a long moment.

Then smiled sadly.

"No."

"You loved being admired."

"You never learned how to appreciate the person doing the work behind the applause."

Daniel lowered his eyes.

"I've changed."

"Perhaps."

She folded her hands.

"But change begins with accepting consequences."

He nodded slowly.

"I don't expect another chance."

"You shouldn't."

She stood.

Not in anger.

Not in triumph.

Simply because the conversation was over.

As he reached the door, he turned back.

"Will you ever forgive me?"

Elena answered without hesitation.

"I forgave you the day I stopped hating you."

Hope flickered across his face.

Then she gently finished.

"But forgiveness isn't an invitation to come back."

"It's permission for me to move forward."

He smiled through tears.

For the first time...

He understood.

Love cannot survive where respect never existed.

He walked away.

May you like

This time...

He didn't ask her to follow.
