The black SUVs rolled to a stop beneath the mansion's grand entrance.
Three members of Ward Global's executive board stepped inside, followed by Elena's chief legal officer, Jonathan Pierce.
No one greeted Daniel.
No one even acknowledged him.
Jonathan walked directly to Elena and handed her a leather portfolio.
"Everything is ready, Ms. Ward."
She nodded once.
"Let's go."
Daniel hurried after her.
"You can't remove me. I'm the CEO!"
Jonathan calmly opened the portfolio.
"You were the CEO."
He placed an official resolution on the marble table.
"By unanimous vote of the Board of Directors, your executive authority has been terminated, effective immediately."
Patricia snatched the document.
"This is outrageous!"
Jonathan looked at her politely.
"Mrs. Carter, Ward Global's bylaws grant the majority shareholder exclusive authority to appoint or remove the Chief Executive Officer."
He glanced toward Elena.
"Ms. Ward owns fifty-eight percent of the company's voting shares."
The room fell silent.
Daniel stared at Elena.
"You knew..."
"I always knew."
"You let me believe I built this empire."
Elena met his eyes.
"I let you lead it."
She paused.
"But leadership is a privilege."
"You treated it like ownership."
Jonathan continued reading.
"Company vehicles are to be returned immediately."
"Executive access cards have been deactivated."
"Corporate accounts are frozen pending financial review."
"The penthouse apartment is company property and must be vacated within seventy-two hours."
Chloe suddenly stepped away from Daniel.
"You told me everything belonged to you."
Daniel couldn't answer.
