Chapter 3: The Raid

Chapter 3: The Raid
At exactly 12:19 a.m., everything happened at once.
The front door exploded inward.
"FBI! DON'T MOVE!"
Voices echoed through the house.
Tristan spun around.
Instead of surrendering, he reached into his jacket.
Gavin's heart nearly stopped.
A gun.
Three agents tackled Tristan before he could raise it.
The weapon slid across the hardwood floor.
Within seconds, he was pinned face-down.
Handcuffs clicked shut.
Dominic entered last.
His FBI jacket was soaked from the rain.
For a moment, he simply stood there looking at the man his sister had trusted for nine years.
"You had a family," Dominic said quietly.
"And you threw it away."
Tristan laughed bitterly.
"You have no idea what you've interrupted."
Dominic crouched beside the opened packages.
"Oh, I do."
Inside were forged passports.
Encrypted hard drives.
Stacks of cash.
And classified defense documents stolen from government contractors across three states.
The "renovation project" in Charlotte had never existed.

Tristan hadn't been hiding from construction.
He had been hiding evidence.
