PART 2 — The Name They Were Afraid to Say

PART 2 — The Name They Were Afraid to Say
Outside, the night air was colder than expected.
Aria didn’t speak until they reached the car.
A black vehicle waited at the curb, engine silent, doors already open.
She stopped just before getting in.
“Why now?” she asked.
The billionaire didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he looked at her like someone checking for wounds.
“They crossed a line,” he said finally. “I gave them time to correct it. They didn’t.”
Aria gave a short, bitter breath. “They always think I’m something they can manage.”
“I know,” he replied.
That “I know” again.
Not sympathy.
Experience.
The car door remained open.
Aria didn’t move yet.
“You shouldn’t have come in there,” she said. “Evan will—”
“He won’t do anything,” the billionaire interrupted.
A pause.
Then, more quietly:
“Because he’s going to realize very soon who he’s been insulting in public.”
Aria’s eyes flickered.
“…You didn’t tell him.”
“No.”
“Why?”
For the first time, something like emotion crossed the billionaire’s face.
Not anger.
Not pride.
Something controlled… and old.
“Because I wanted to see if you would choose yourself without needing the truth.”
Aria’s breath caught slightly.
She looked down at her hands.
“They all say I’m nothing without him,” she whispered.
A beat.
Then the billionaire said:
“That’s why I waited so long to come back.”
That sentence landed heavier than any revelation.
Because it implied one thing:
He had been waiting.
For her.
All this time.
Aria finally stepped into the car.
But before the door closed, she asked one last question.
“Are they going to hate me for this?”
The billionaire’s answer was immediate.
“No.”
A pause.
“They already feared you. They just didn’t know it yet.”
May you like
The door closed.
And the car pulled away.
