Chapter 4 – The Uncle Who Returned

Chapter 4 – The Uncle Who Returned

For years, Marcus Thorne had heard the same sentence about Adrian Parker.

"He disappeared."

Not died.

Not failed.

Not lost.

Disappeared.

And in the world Marcus lived in, disappearing usually meant one thing.

Someone wanted to leave the past behind.

But Adrian had never been the kind of man who ran away.

He was the kind of man who waited.

A man who watched.

A man who remembered.

A man who never forgot what powerful people were capable of.

That was why Marcus trusted him.

And that was why Isabella Rossi feared him.

Because unlike everyone else in their world...

Adrian did not need anything from them.

The Man Nobody Expected

The morning after the hospital attack, reporters gathered outside Thorne Medical Center.

The entire city wanted answers.

Who attacked Khloe Thorne?

Why was Isabella Rossi inside the private suite?

Who had the security footage?

But one name kept appearing.

Adrian Parker.

The mysterious hospital security director who had uncovered the truth.

The public knew almost nothing about him.

They knew he was related to Khloe.

They knew he worked quietly behind the scenes.

But they did not know his history.

They did not know that twenty years earlier...

Adrian Parker was one of the most respected security experts in the country.

He had protected politicians.

Business leaders.

Celebrities.

Until one night changed everything.

A powerful family had asked him to erase evidence from an incident.

Adrian refused.

And refusing powerful people came with a price.

His reputation was destroyed.

His contracts disappeared.

People stopped calling.

So he left.

Not because he was defeated.

Because he understood something.

Sometimes the only way to survive a corrupt system...

Was to step away from it.

But when Khloe called him years later and asked him to help design security for the hospital...

He returned.

Because Khloe was family.

And because Adrian knew the world had not changed.

Marcus Learns the Truth

Marcus sat inside the private office overlooking the hospital.

The city stretched below him.

Adrian stood across from him.

"You knew someone was targeting Khloe."

Marcus's voice was calm.

Too calm.

Adrian nodded.

"I suspected."

"How long?"

"A few months."

Marcus looked at him.

"Months?"

"I was investigating."

"And you didn't tell me?"

Adrian remained silent.

That silence answered everything.

Marcus stood.

"Why?"

Adrian looked at him.

"Because every time I looked closer..."

He paused.

"The person behind it became harder to reach."

Marcus frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Adrian placed a folder on the desk.

Inside were dozens of documents.

Anonymous messages.

Fake reports.

Private conversations.

Marcus flipped through them.

Then he stopped.

A photograph.

Isabella.

Not at a party.

Not smiling for cameras.

Meeting someone.

Marcus looked closer.

"Who is that?"

Adrian answered quietly.

"Someone Isabella has been working with."

Marcus looked up.

"Who?"

Adrian hesitated.

"Your former business partner."

The room became silent.

A Larger Plan

Marcus stared at the photograph.

"That doesn't make sense."

"Doesn't it?"

Adrian asked.

Marcus looked away.

His former partner.

A man he had trusted for years.

A man who had helped build part of the Thorne empire.

"Why would he help Isabella?"

Adrian replied:

"Because Isabella wasn't only trying to take your wife away."

He pointed at the documents.

"She was trying to destabilize you."

Marcus felt a chill.

"The marriage problems."

"The rumors."

"The public humiliation."

Adrian nodded.

"All of it had a purpose."

"What purpose?"

Adrian looked directly at him.

"To make you weak."

Khloe Remembers

Inside her hospital room, Khloe stared out the window.

She had survived the attack.

The doctors said the baby was safe.

Everyone told her she was lucky.

But she didn't feel lucky.

Because she kept remembering Isabella's words.

"You were supposed to know your place."

Those words stayed in her mind.

Not because they hurt.

Because they revealed something.

Isabella did not see her as a person.

She saw her as an obstacle.

A problem to remove.

Marcus entered quietly.

Khloe turned.

"You look worried."

He tried to smile.

"I'm fine."

She immediately knew he was lying.

"Marcus."

He sat beside her.

"There is more happening than we thought."

Khloe watched him.

"How much more?"

He looked down.

"I don't know."

That frightened her more than anything.

Because Marcus Thorne always knew what to do.

This time...

He didn't.

Isabella's Panic

Meanwhile, Isabella sat inside her family's mansion.

The news played loudly.

EXCLUSIVE: SECURITY FOOTAGE CONFIRMS ATTACK ON KHLOE THORNE

Her own face appeared on every screen.

The world was seeing her.

Not the version she created.

The real one.

She threw the remote across the room.

"This is impossible."

Her father stood nearby.

"You made a mistake."

Isabella turned.

"A mistake?"

Her voice became louder.

"Do you know who I am?"

Richard Rossi looked at her coldly.

"That is exactly the problem."

She froze.

"You spent your entire life believing your name would protect you."

He stepped closer.

"But names only work when people still respect them."

For the first time...

Isabella looked afraid.

"What happens now?"

Richard didn't answer immediately.

Then he said:

"Now we find out who else knows the truth."

The Anonymous Message

That night, Marcus received an email.

No sender.

No information.

Only one video file.

Adrian looked at it.

"Don't open it."

Marcus stared.

"Why?"

"Because whoever sent this wants you to see it."

"And?"

Adrian looked serious.

"That means they want something."

Marcus opened the file anyway.

The video began.

A dark room.

A conversation.

Isabella's voice.

But not with the person from the photograph.

Someone else.

Someone unexpected.

Marcus froze.

Because the person sitting across from Isabella...

Was someone inside his own company.

Someone he trusted.

Someone who had been standing beside him for years.

Khloe watched the screen.

Her face went pale.

"No..."

Marcus looked at her.

"You know him?"

She nodded slowly.

"I thought he was our friend."

The video continued.

Isabella said:

"Once Marcus loses everything, the company will collapse."

The other person replied:

"And when it does, we take control."

Marcus stopped the video.

His hands tightened.

Because suddenly the attack on Khloe was no longer just jealousy.

It was a business war.

A carefully planned attack against his family.

And Isabella Rossi...

Was only one piece.

The Promise

Later that night, Marcus stood beside Khloe's hospital bed.

She was sleeping.

His hand rested gently over hers.

He looked at the woman he almost lost.

And the child they almost lost.

Then he whispered:

"I promise you..."

"No one will ever use our family as a weapon again."

Outside the window, the city lights continued shining.

But somewhere in that city...

Someone was watching.

Someone who believed Marcus Thorne could be destroyed.

Someone who believed Khloe's attack would be the beginning of the end.

They were wrong.

Because they had forgotten one thing.

Marcus Thorne was not alone.

And the man who returned from the shadows...

May you like

Was about to reveal why powerful people had feared him all along.
