CHAPTER 3 – The Wedding That Fell Apart

The celebration unraveled within minutes.

Guests who had applauded moments earlier now whispered among themselves.

Several of Rebecca's business clients approached her.

"We owe you an apology," one executive admitted.

"We believed the rumors."

Rebecca nodded politely.

"I understand."

Nathan finally stepped forward.

"I'm sorry, Rebecca."

"I never asked Mom to do this."

Rebecca met his eyes.

"But you knew she was doing it."

He couldn't deny it.

Olivia slowly removed the bridal bouquet from her hands.

She looked from Nathan to Caroline.

"Was our wedding really supposed to begin by stealing from your sister?"

Nathan remained silent.

Tears filled Olivia's eyes.

"I married into a family."

"I didn't agree to join a conspiracy."

She quietly handed Nathan her wedding ring.

"I need time to think about what kind of man you really are."

Without another word, she walked out of the ballroom.

Richard Bennett buried his face in his hands.

For years he had ignored the conflict, hoping silence would preserve peace.

Instead, silence had allowed injustice to grow.

He walked toward Rebecca.

"I'm sorry."

"I should have protected you."

Rebecca's eyes softened.

"I needed a father."

May you like

"Not a spectator."

Those words broke him.
