Chapter 1 – The Balcony

Chapter 1 – The Balcony
The ballroom sparkled beneath crystal chandeliers.
A string quartet played softly as guests admired the breathtaking decorations. Champagne glasses clinked together, and photographers hurried from table to table, capturing every perfect moment.
Everything looked flawless.
Except no one noticed the little girl missing from the crowd.
Eight-year-old Lily had been searching for her father.
She wore a pink dress that her grandmother had spent weeks sewing by hand. She clutched a tiny bouquet of white roses, excited to be the flower girl at her father's wedding.
"Dad?" she called softly.
"I just want to show you my shoes."
Before she could reach the bridal suite, Victoria stepped into the hallway.
The bride smiled—but only until she noticed Lily.
"What are you doing up here?"
"I was looking for Daddy."
Victoria sighed dramatically.
"I told you this morning not to bother us."
"I just wanted to—"
"You wanted attention."
Without another word, Victoria opened the glass balcony door.
"Stand outside for a few minutes."
"You need to learn when adults are busy."
Lily looked frightened.
"It's cold."
"You'll survive."
Victoria gently—but firmly—pushed her onto the balcony before sliding the glass door shut.
Then...
She pulled the curtain closed.
The child became invisible.
Outside, icy wind whipped through Lily's thin dress.
She knocked on the glass.
"Daddy..."
No one heard her.
Inside, Victoria calmly returned to the mirror.
She adjusted her veil.
Filed one fingernail.
Smiled at her reflection.
"Finally," she whispered.
May you like
"Some peace."
She had no idea those few cruel minutes were about to destroy everything she had spent years trying to build.
